From the 6th of April the employee’s General Practitioner can recommend employers consider the following issues when returning an employee to the workplace

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) report that during 2006/7, an estimated 2.2 million people suffered ill-health which they believe was caused by their work. Of these musculoskeletal disorders and stress figured as the two most common reasons for sickness absence.

 

While not all illness can be prevented, a robust occupational health service can often help to reduce illness caused at work. Occupational health support can also improve the recovery time for those affected by work related illness.

Any individual employing more than five people must, by law, have a health and safety policy statement which must be brought to the attention of all employees.  They must also record the results of all risk assessments.
