Kevin Brant
Occupational Hygienist : BSC LFOH
Kevin has had a varied scientific background, studying Biological Sciences at Plymouth, majoring in Marine Biology. Unfortunately there are few opportunities to be the next Jacques Cousteau, so he diversified into organic chemistry, working for Sigma Chemical Co. producing novel natural products including human DNA purification and specialising in Lectin purification from various sources including Ricin (castor bean) & mistletoe toxin. Subsequent diversification resulted in transferring to microbiology as a lab technician specialising in UKAS Legionella analysis and drinking water microbiology. Progression within this field culminated in running a UKAS laboratory. Site visits for Legionella L8 risk assessment and indoor air quality (L24 & IAQ) prompted a requirement for post graduate training and subsequent gain of the Certificate in Occupational Hygiene and the award of licensed occupational hygienist, where he left the laboratory world and has been practising for the last 12 years, giving advice and testing in Legionella risk assessment (L8), indoor air quality (IAQ), air-handling unit assessment (L24), noise (L108), dust & solvent monitoring, asbestos, thermal comfort, thermal stress (WBGT), local exhaust ventilation (14 Month) (HSG54), clean room particulates and light.
